The Origin of the Rhode Island Red.
Rhode Island Reds originated from Rhode Island in America. Initially they were rose combed and were first exhibited in 1880 in South Massachusetts. The Single comb Rhode Island was not recognised in America until 1904. The British Rhode Island Red Club formed in 1909.
Rhode Island Red Bantams.
We do the miniature fowl, which are are classed as heavy soft feather bantam for showing purposes. A good specimen is often described as being brick shaped.
They are a popular, easy going, useful and independant bird with shiny rich chocolate red feathering. They are excellent layers of tinted eggs. They don’t tend to go broody.
